The Computer Magnet is a four-year, comprehensive technology program at Thomas Jefferson High School, offering industry standard training in Web Applications, Software Engineering, 3D Design and Broadcast-Broadband Journalism and Communications, giving students the opportunity to enhance not only their computer and problem solving skills, but also their oral, written, and visual communication abilities. Students in the Computer Magnet receive in-depth and integrated training in technology, using state-of-the-art software and equipment. Since the Computer Magnet operates under a business model, students in this program will be given the opportunity to partner together on technology projects for real customers; therefore, students also receive training in project management, problem solving, and interpersonal communication. The Computer Magnet application process is simple and straightforward; however, students should consider that this is a very rigorous program that requires nightly homework, before-school, after-school, and weekend time commitments, and involves, above all else, great amounts of creativity and dedication. We expect our students to be excited about this challenging program, and to be ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work. The Computer Magnet will balance out the schedules of any TJ students, including those who take part in Thomas Jefferson’s outstanding athletics, drama, arts, X-track academics, and the many AP classes that TJ offers.
